James R. “Tink” Snyder

James R. “Tink” Snyder, 96, of Chandlerville, passed away at Passavant Area Hospital, in Jacksonville, at 4:10 p.m., on Friday, January 21, 2022.

He was born November 18, 1925, at Ghost Hollow, near Chandlerville, to William and Lillian (Duckwiler) Snyder. He married Marjorie Armstrong, in Chandlerville, on November 17, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2012.

Mr. Snyder is survived by six children: Richard Dean of Indiana, Janice (Ron) Sheppard of Chandlerville, Karen Barrett of Schaumburg, Illinois, James (Lynn) Snyder, of Hardin, Illinois, Rita (Jim) Leinberger of Chandlerville and Sheila (Derek) Thompson of Illiopolis, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Anthony (Kristen) Snyder, Terry (fiance-Laura) Snyder, Haley (Derrick) Burress, Colin Barrett, Cory (companion- Breanna) Bushnell, April (fiance – Jarod Stock) Leinberger, Katie Leinberger, Audrey (Andy) Gilman, and Herschel (Casey) Mibb; as well as four great-grandchildren: Kyler, Alessandria, Jackson, and Axle. Also surviving are three siblings: Vicki Bottens, of Pekin, Judy Hahn of Bath and Paul E. “Beasley” Snyder of Chandlerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers: Robert “Hooker” Snyder, and Arthur “Art” Snyder.

Mr. Snyder served in the US Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was later a member of the Chandlerville American Legion. He loved bluegrass music. He had organized “Tink’s Bluegrass Festival” in Chandlerville and Oakford for over thirty years. After serving in the Army, Tink started working on a dredge boat. He later worked for the munitions plant in Illiopolis. He later worked in the sawmill/lumber business. He finished his career when he retired from the railroad in 1976.

Visitation will be held at Panther Creek New Beginnings Church, in Chandlerville from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 27, 2022, also at the church. Tommy Carlock will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Chandlerville Cemetery.
