Gregory guest speaker at Exchange meeting

Chris Gregory, who has been with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad for 17 years, was the featured speaker at the regular meeting of the Exchange Club of Beardstown on March 5.
Gregory is a locomotive engineer as well as the safety trainer and the safety committee chairman. He has two bosses: the train master who is in charge of the yard office and the road foreman of engines. The Beardstown office currently has 165 employees though this number varies.
The original railroad line in Beardstown was the Aurora, becoming in 1849 the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (CB&Q). This line then merged with St. Louis-San Francisco. In 1980 it became the Burlington Northern and in 1996 became BNSF by merging with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It is the second largest railway system in the U.S. behind Union Pacific.
