Gerold R. Boice, 80, Sherman, died at 7:29 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Jerry was born July 9, 1941, in Beardstown, the son of John and Ethel Bernice (Surratt) Boice. He married Sharon Jockisch on September 30, 1962, in Beardstown.
He graduated from Beardstown High School in 1960 and earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist degrees from Western Illinois University. He worked as a barber in his younger years before he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a combat medic in the Vietnam War. He then was employed as a teacher, a principal, and eventually as a superintendent. Jerry was a member and deacon of Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman. He was a builder and built the house he retired in, along with his daughter’s home, and many others. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and loved antique cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Seth Craycraft; and brother, John Robert “Bob” Boice.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Boice of Quincy; daughters, Michelle Boice of Naperville, and Carla (Chad) Craycraft of Williamsville; grandchildren, Gabe and Tim Craycraft; sister, Charlotte Milby of Beardstown; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Living Faith Baptist Church, 7575 W. Outer Rd., Sherman. A funeral ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Dr. Richard Tribble and Pastor Adam Cruse officiating.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
