Dorothy Mae “Penny”  Barnett, 95, Beardstown died Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born October 17, 1926 in Arenzville, the daughter of Elmer and Kathryn Weber Hinners. She married Jack Barnett October 26, 1945 and he preceded her in death December 7, 2009. She was a military wife of 42 years.

She is survived by a son, Mike (Paula) Barnett of Beardstown; three grandchildren, Laura (Billy Krems) Barnett of Beardstown, Jack (Michelle) Barnett of New Hope, MN, Cheryl (Abi) Barnett of Carterville; three great grandchildren, her best friend, Imogene Drawve, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Bernita White, Glennis Foust and Charles Hinners.

Dorothy graduated from Beardstown High School in 1945. She worked at Sangamo Electric from 1955-1978. She enjoyed growing red roses, visiting Washington Park flower gardens in Springfield and listening to the Thomas Rees Memorial Carrillon Bells, and feeding the ducks.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 2, 2022 at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with burial to follow in Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation was held until the time of services Monday at the funeral home.
