Delbert W. Vincent, 93, Springfield, died on the afternoon of Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Concordia Village.
He was born August 24, 1927, in Springfield, the son of William and Hazel Marie Emmerson Vincent. He married Phyllis Joann Miller on March 7, 1954, at Asbury Methodist Church in Springfield; she preceded him in death on August 16, 2019.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard (Marceline) and Francis Vincent; and nephews, Michael Vincent and Steven Miller.
He is survived by his nephews, Curt (Marla Baird) Vincent and Greg (Geri) Marion; nieces, Sheryll Holloway, Pam (Jeff Golden) Alborg, Jennifer (Mike Long) Miller, and Barbara Vincent; great-nieces and nephews, Adam Marion, Lori Kerber, Krista (Mo Heidari) Kerber, Brian (Celeste) Kerber, Thomas (Yoko) Miller, Cortney (Darrell) Sims, Tanner Vincent, Erin Vincent, Kathryn Vincent, Traci (Steve) Richter, Tara (Chris) McSwain, Tori (Rod) Huffman, and Tiffany (Scott) Adcock; brother-in-law, William (Mary, deceased) Miller; sister-in-law, Joella (Gary) Kerber; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
Delbert graduated from Virden High School where he played trumpet in the school band and also for the Virden Municipal Band. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and then went to work for Fiat Allis and then for the State of Illinois. Delbert was a devoted husband, avid Chicago Cubs fan, a collector and enthusiast of model trains, and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Phyllis. They attended the World’s Fair in 1965 together.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Jeff Harter officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery with military honors provided by the Department of Defense.
