Beardstown’s Music Man, Landon Wink
Landon Wink, 18, a recent graduate of Beardstown High School, is a tall, unassuming young man. He is polite, well-spoken, and will be attending Western Illinois University in the fall. As a student at BHS he was active on the student council and he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was a good student with good grades, and now he will be moving on with his education as will so many others from his class. So what makes Landon special? His music.
Landon sat sixth chair trumpet at the district band conference. He took first place in the state for arranging the theme from E.T. the Extraterrestrial from just the piano part. To create his arrangement, he had to look at the written piano part (basically the melody), listen to the orchestrated version, and extrapolate from that a full concert band arrangement written by him. It was an impressive feat, in and of itself for a high school senior, but Landon, with the mentoring of Mr. Steadman, the band director at BHS, executed it to the highest degree.
