Making sure you say what you mean
Greetings from the Ridge.
Most of us had Mrs. Cory for a teacher. You may have called her Mrs. Smith, White, or Jones, but mine was Cory. “Can I go to the bathroom, Mrs. Cory?”
“I don’t know. Can you?”
“I mean, may I go to the bathroom?”
“Mrs. Cory, my ma told me that...”
“I don’t know any ma’s. If you mean your mother, then say so.”
No matter what name God gave your most picky teacher, she was the one who made sure that you said what you meant, period. There was no wiggle room with the Corys of the world who insisted on communication being clear and understandable, whether you were squirming in your seat with a complaining bladder or not.
