America gets a ‘Pope sandwich’

    Greetings from the Ridge.
He had just met the President of the United States, the President’s family, the Vice President and a whole host of other dignitaries and although Pope Francis was polite he seemed slightly bored. Then he saw the rope line, the mass of less well-known folks behind the barrier. His eyes lit up. He smiled.  And being the Pope, he set aside everyone else’s agenda and walked toward the commoners with outstretched hands.
I watched Pope Francis’s Air Italia jet land in Washington and then tuned in the next day to see him greeted by a record crowd of people on the South lawn of the White House. I’m a protestant for the same reason that Francis is a Roman Catholic...we were born into our faith and it’s there that we’ve found a home.
