The meaning of the word ‘terminal’

Greetings from the Ridge.
    Thomas Jefferson was not against an aristocracy, but believed that virtue and talent (instead of wealth) should determine the elite class. It should be noted that Jefferson seldom visited airports.
    I recently spent a good deal of time in a variety of airline terminals, slowly understanding the meaning of the word “terminal”. I thought I’d spent my life living, eating, sleeping and walking around in a democracy, but there remains one bastion of elitism, and that’s the nearest airport.
