Chief of Police Hurst’s resignation sparks public outcry at City Council meeting

There was unusually high attendance at last night’s city council meeting after Police Chief Roy Hurst handed in his letter of resignation.
Numerous citizens gave testimonies commending Roy Hurst on his performance as the Beardstown Chief of Police and highlighted the positive changes that he has brought to Beardstown.
Additionally, several people urged Mayor Patterson and the city council to reach an agreement with Chief Hurst that would stop him from leaving. Although the mayor is currently responsible for hiring department heads, there was huge public support for an alternative that would allow the council to participate in this process. There was also support for contracts that would guarantee department heads their job for a specified time period.
