The Beardstown Lady Tiger basketball team split a pair of games last week, winning on the road at South Fulton then falling at home to Camp Point Central-Southeastern as part of a girl-boy double header against the Panthers.  Beardstown now has a record of 8-5 on the season.

The Beardstown High School Wrestling team traveled to Petersburg last Saturday to compete in the Rex Avery PORTA Invite. 

At 138 pounds, Maddox Medrano scored three team points.  He won by major decision 22-13 to start things then lost by fall at 1:10 and by fall at 2:42.  Luis De La Cruz placed 6th and scored 13.5 team points at 144 pounds.  He won by fall at 0:53 and 1:16 before losing by fall at 0:39.  He then won by technical fall before losing the 5th Place Match by fall at 2:35.

Young Trojans stop OSS – Triopia Jr High Basketball results

Both the seventh and eighth grade Triopia boys’ basketball teams picked up wins last week against Our Savior School of Jacksonville.  

The seventh-grade boys were in a dogfight until the second half when they turned up the defense and marched to a 34 to 17 win.  It was 9 to 6 in favor of the Trojans after one and jus

Tough week for Junior High Tigers

The Beardstown Junior High School boys’ basketball teams had a tough week, losing both games resoundingly to Pleasant Plains at home then dropping two tough ones on the road at Havana.  The seventh grade lost 54 to 17 to Plains and 26 to 20 to Havana while the eighth grade fell 44 to 9 to the Cardinals and 32 to 13 to the Ducks.

Redbirds take two wins

The Virginia Redbirds were able to outfly the Eagles of Liberty last week but were no match for the Cougars of Illini Central.  The seventh grade Birds knocked off Liberty 44 to 19 while the eighth-grade squad won 35 to 19.

Wildcats no match for Tigers

Two teams from completely different directions from Beardstown, but both with North in their name, were no match for the Beardstown boys’ basketball team last week.  On Tuesday, North Fulton made the trip south and the Tigers sent the Wildcats home with a 56 to 46 loss. On Friday, BHS traveled south to White Hall and defeated the Spartans of North Greene High School 48 to 38.

Trojans crush Rockets

It was a good week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia Trojan high school boys’ basketball team as they completely dismantled the Rushville-Industry Rockets on the road to start the week, winning 61 to 35.  And although some say there is no such thing as a good loss, Coach Rich Thompson had to be happy with his team’s performance, except their free throw shooting, in a close 36 to 29 loss to a highly regarded Camp Point team at home on Saturday.

It was a quiet week for the PORTA-AC Central boys’ basketball team with just one game on the docket.  

The Jays welcomed the Havana Ducks to Ashland last Friday then sent them home on the wrong end of a 55 to 32 score, outscoring them in every quarter.

Lady Tigers thrash Spartans

The Spartans were absolutely no match for the Tigers last week. On the other hand, the Warriors were ready to come out and play proved too much for the big cats on the hardwood.  In other words, the Beardstown Lady Tigers blasted both the Bushnell Prairie City and North Greene Spartans last week, putting running clocks on both, while the Athens Warriors came to town and knocked off Beardstown in an exciting game.
