When two evenly matched baseball teams play the outcome, many times, comes down to just a couple of plays, maybe a lucky break here or a bad bounce there.
Although the season ending loss is always disappointing, a top eight in the State of Illinois finish like the Beardstown 9/10-year-old baseball All-Stars accomplished is something to be proud of. With the Tigers coming agonizingly close to victory in their final two games at State, it may take a little time, but the disappointment will soon fade into truly great memories.

The Tri-County Thunder/District 17 Senior League Softball All Stars, the defending World Series Champions, will play their final regular season doubleheader on Tuesday, July 16 at Bruce Rice field in Beardstown. Game times are at 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Beardstown Softball 11/12-year-old All Stars are one of four teams left with a shot at winning the Illinois State Championship. A 3-1 record in pool play gave the Tigers the right to advance to tourney play where they will definitely have a punchers’ chance. But so will the other three squads as the State Title will be decided in a one day, four-team, three-game, single elimination extravaganza on Wednesday, July 10.
A rough first game of the tournament against Tri-County sent the Beardstown 9/10-year-old all-star softball team into the loser’s bracket. From there they picked up a nice win over Brown County before getting a rematch with Tri-County.
