A good season for the Virginia-Triopia High School Track teams continued last week as the boys took first place at a three-team meet at Carrollton and the girls took first place at a five-team meet in Havana. The girls finished second at Carrollton and the boys placed second at Havana.
The Virginia-Triopia Junior High Track teams competed in two meets last week, on Tuesday in a five-team meet at Pleasant Plains and on Saturday at the PORTA Junior High Invite featuring eight eighth grade teams and nine seventh grade teams. Individually at Plains, Drake Rhondes placed second in the 200 and fourth in the 100 and the high jump, Michael Breckenridge finished sixth in the 100, Corbin Beck placed second in the 800, the 1600, the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 400, Bentley Seymour finished second in the 400 and fourth in the 800, Jackson Crews was fourth in the 110 hurdles and the long jump, Riley Lovekamp placed fourth in the shotput, Mason Lomelino placed sixth in the discus, Kevin Hawk tied for fifth in the high jump, and Cooper Lane finished sixth in the long jump.
The Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia baseball team picked up their second win of the season with an 11 to 0 win at Pleasant Hill last Thursday. The Trojans lost at Jacksonville Routt 12 to 4 on Monday and at Beardstown 9 to 5 on Tuesday, giving them a 2-16 record on the year.
The Beardstown Area Special Athletes attended the Summer Games in Chatham last Sunday with several participants earning Gold in their event. The following athletes were the BASA Gold Medal Winners: Rajat Nijhawan, Standing, Long Jump and 200 Meter Run; Matthew Bradbury, Mini Javelin and 400 Meter Walk; Craig Winters, 50 Meter Run and Mini Javelin; Sarah Elliot, Softball Throw; Tisha Barnette, Softball Throw; Jenny Thurman, 400 Meter Walk; CJ Evans, 400 Meter Walk; Stephany Dirksmeyer, 50 Meter Run; Leah Mustard, 100 Meter Walk; Amber Crane, Tennis Ball Throw and 100 Meter Walk.
Bella Palmer hit a walk off homerun leading off the eleventh inning to give the Beardstown High School softball team a big 6 to 5 conference win over Camp Point last Monday at home.
The PORTA-AC Central High School track team competed in two events last week, with the boys tying for third out of seven teams in Beardstown and finishing fourth out of fourteen teams at the Rob Garcia Invitational in Rushville. The girls placed fifth out of six teams in Beardstown and thirteenth in the fourteen team Rob Garcia Invitational.
The PORTA-AC Central softball team picked up a conference win over the New Berlin Pretzels and suffered a conference loss to the Williamsville Bullets last week. The Lady Bluejays are now 6-9 overall and 2-4 in the Sangamo Conference.
The Beardstown High School track teams hosted a home meet last Thursday with the boys winning first place out of seven teams and the girls placing second out of six teams. On Saturday, the Tigers traveled to Rushville for the Annual Rob Garcia Co-Ed Invitational with both the boys and girls placing sixth out of fourteen teams.
The Beardstown Junior High School track team was in action just once last week, traveling to Williiamsville for the Junior High BeeBee Invite on Friday. The seventh-grade boys finished seventh out of ten teams, the eighth graders finished fifth, the seventh-grade girls finished in sixth place and the eighth graders finished in third place.
The PORTA-AC Central baseball team won twice and lost twice last week, going 1-1 in conference games, including a tough loss to Williamsville. The Bluejays are now 13-8-1 overall and 2-3 in the Sangamo Conference on the year.
