Triopia Baseball ends regular season

Junior Maggie Zimmerman has qualified for the IHSA Class 1A Track and Field State Championship meet in the 3200-meter run for PORTA-AC Central High School.
After two losses to start the week, the Beardstown High School baseball team rebounded to win their last game of the regular season to finish with a mark of 17-7. The Tigers lost 14 to 4 on the road at Illini West and 5 to 3 at Macomb before knocking off Lewistown-Valley-Cuba 8 to 5 at home.
The PORTA-AC Central High School softball team picked up two wins in three games last week to finish the regular season with a mark of 9-12. The Lady Bluejays crushed Hartsburg-Emden 19 to 0 and lost to Havana 7 to 2 at home, then defeated Delavan 15 to 2 on the road.
Former Beardstown softball standout Marlee Brown is headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division Two World Series with the Illinois Central College softball team. The fourth-seeded Cougars (33-21) beat top-seed Mineral Area in back-to-back games to capture the Central District Tournament championship, making for the program’s first national tournament appearance since 2022.
The PORTA-AC Central High School boys’ track team placed fourth out of eleven teams and the girls’ track team finished ninth out of ten teams at the Sangamo Conference Track Meet last Tuesday. The boys’ teams’ top finishers were Isaac Rennecker winning the high jump and the triple jump and getting second in the 200 meters, Noah Hardy placing second in the 400 and the long jump and fourth in the 200, Kade Parker finishing third in the 1600 and fifth in the 800, D.J.
The Beardstown High School Track team took part in the West Central Conference track meet last Friday, taking second place out of eight teams in the boys’ meet and fourth place out of six teams in the girls’ competition. Conference champions for the boys were Marcos Laurencio in the 300 hurdles and Joel Sosa in both the 800 and 1600 meters as well as the 4x100 relay team of Laurencio, Michael Sevilla Torres, Kellen Brown and Joshua Severino, the 4x400 team of Severino, Brok Ratliff, Ephrem Kayembe and Darren Lopez and the 4x800 team of Sosa, Bryan Islas, Marin Pineda and Lopez.
In a full week for the Triopia-Meredosia-Virginia High School softball team, the Lady Trojans went 4-1, including a win over Cass County rival Beardstown and pushed their season record to 21-6. Playing every day but Saturday, Triopia beat the Tigers, Western, South Fulton and Jacksonville High before losing a heartbreaker to Pittsfield last Friday.
The Beardstown High School baseball team went 3-0 last week, sweeping West Prairie, Brown County and New Berlin to improve their record to 16-5 on the season. On the road at West Prairie last Tuesday, a seven-run third inning propelled the Tigers to an 11 to 2 victory.
A 1-2 week by the PORTA-AC Central High School softball team has the Lady Bluejays sitting at 8-11 going into the final week of the regular season. The Jays lost conference games to Auburn and Stanford Olympia while taking down Pawnee.
