IDOT is not closing bridge

Illinois Department of Transportation representatives Greg Heckel, Program Development Engineer for District 6, and Kiley Gwaltny, Construction Engineer for District 6 spoke to the Beardstown City Council on Tuesday, May 20th regarding the current repair contract and the proposed new bridge construction. Heckel first stated he wanted to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this time.

Taft to compete at state

Tara Taft competed at the Illinois FFA District III Job Interview contest last week that was held at Lincoln Land Community College. She is an A-C Central High School student.

Rise Broadband visits Virginia Council

Ron Macek from Rise Broadband, an internet provider in Illinois, presented to the Virginia City Council at their May 12th, meeting that his company will be reaching out to the council in hopes of constructing a new fiber optic network later this year. When complete, it will give the residents of Virginia another option for high-speed broadband This meet and greet was to schedule a meeting to discuss permitting and access to right-of-way.

Virginia City Council holds special meeting

The Virginia City Council held a special meeting April 30th to swear in the newly-elected City Treasurer, Griffin Giovanninini by City Attorney Erin Wilson Laegeler. The council also confirmed Mayor Steve Clark’s appointments of Chris Behrends, Ward Two Alderman and Megan Werner, Ward Three Alderwoman.

Troubled bridge over waters

Repair work on the William Dietrich Bridge began early spring to complete bridge joint repairs, deck patching and structural steel repairs.

Beardstown Council adopts new tax

The Beardstown City Council adopted the Municipal Grocery Retailers’ Occupation Tax and a Municipal Grocery Service Occupation Tax at its regular meetng April 11. This is the one percent grocery tax that the state of Illinois is set to eliminate effective January 1, 2026.
