Once again, the Cass County Star-Gazette won several awards at the Illinois Press Association (IPA) Convention in June.

Beardstown's Bicentennial needs community support

The City of Beardstown was chartered in 1829, that means in just three and a half short years, the community will enter its Bicentennial year. An event celebrating the city’s 200th birthday will require extensive planning and coordination and, at this point, there is no committee.

All About Dance & More competes in Rapid City, SD

Athletes from AADM Airborne Team took the competition floor at the United States Tumbling & Trampoline Association (USTA) National Championships in Rapid City, SD the week of June 16th-21st. Airborne team brought 64 qualifying events to the competition in tumbling, double mini, trampoline, and synchronized trampoline.

Virginia Board appoints new member

After going through applications, Virginia School Board, appointed Kyle Myers as board member for a two-year vacancy Monday night. O The board established the new board committees and voted approval.

Athletes of the Year

The first Cass County Star Gazette Male Athlete of the Year is Beardstown’s Garrett “Chunk” Dailey. The senior won the 2025 honor by virtue of his performance this past winter on the wrestling mat for the Tigers.

Beardstown Softball All-Stars selected

The Beardstown Baseball-Softball Association has announced the selection of the 2025 Softball All Star Teams for the 9- and 10-year-old and the 11- and 12-year-old levels. Named to the 9- and 10-year-old team were Rosalee Paul, Brailey Hager, Isadora Sanchez, Davidson Pate, Ellie Whitehead, Sofia Figueroa, Abigail Massie, Finnley Cook, Jeimy Orbe Figueroe, Korynn Angelo, Kyndal Gebhardt, and Gemma Rhodes.

Beardstown Baseball All-Stars selected

The Beardstown Baseball-Softball Association has announced the selection of the 2025 Baseball All Star Teams for the 9- and 10-year-old and the 11- and 12-year-old levels. Named to the 9- and 10-year-old team for the Tigers were Drew Alloway, Asher Dawson, Kannon Maltby, Athan Martinez, Quinn Richards, Gage Cooper, Jackson Looker, Grayson French, Vinny Mercedes, Alain Mwimbi, Keelan Pilger and Reed Whitehead.
