Cass County Board hears from angry constituent

At Monday night’s meeting of the Cass County Board, Shelly Wessel, Cass County Clerk, was asked by Bill Merriman, Chairman of the Board, to read a letter from Ross Blakeman, Beardstown, to those in attendance. The letter was in response to Cass County Board Member Eric Snellgrove’s unsolicited comments made on his personal social media page.

County Board member opens can of hate worms

At Monday night’s Cass County Board meeting, County Clerk Shelly Wessel read a letter from Beardstown businessman, Ross Blakeman. Blakeman responded to a social media post by County Board Member Eric Snellgrove regarding a recent position filled by Beardstown School Board.

Triopia Cheerleaders excel at camp

The Triopia-Virginia-Meredosia Cheerleading squad recently completed an outstanding week of work at the National Cheerleaders Association Camp at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Beardstown JFL to add cheerleading squad

The Beardstown Junior Football League is very excited to offer a new addition to JFL this year: The Beardstown JFL Cheer Squad! There will be mandatory practice, and they will be on a Cheer Squad that will cheer for the duration of the youth football games. The JFL Board feels that this will be a fun addition to the 2025 JFL season.

Lutheran church hosts arts camp

First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 W. 4th Street, Beardstown, will hold a Music and Worship Arts Camp 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on August 5-8th at the church.

Second in State for Tri County 9/10 Softball

The Tri County Little League 9/10-year-old softball All Star team came within an eyelash of winning the Illinois State Championship, losing 3 to 2 in extra innings to Clarendon Hills in the state title game. It was the second loss to the state tourney hosts for Tri County as their only pool play loss was to Clarendon in the opener.

Possible new police chief in Virginia

Kent Andrew acting as Mayor Pro Temp, and Alderwoman Megan Werner discussed that the Police Committee had met and went over what the qualifications, salary, and hours needed for the new police chief in Virginia require.

Ashland getting new mayor

Ashland will be getting a new mayor as of July 31st. Current Trustee Nancy Kyrouac will replace Mayor Kitty Mau.
