Quincy Art Center announces open call

The Quincy Art Center is excited to announce an open call for its upcoming art exhibit, themed “Connections.” An open call is an invitation for artists and collectors of all levels to submit their work for display in a public exhibition. Artists of all mediums, as well as collectors of art, are invited to respond.

Cass County government and school board meetings

A-C Central School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 at the Board Conference Room, Unit Office, 501 W. Buchanan Street, Ashland.

Ashland Village Board will meet at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10 at the Ashland Municipal Building.

Arenzville Village Board will meet at 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Village  Hall, 201 E. Main Street.

Beardstown City Council will meet at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 at 105 W. 3rd Street in the Council Chambers.

Storms hit Beardstown on Tuesday, June 25 causing damage to several properties in the area. Trees fell on homes, poles were snapped off, power lines were downed. Courthouse and Jail Committee scheduled for July 4 has been changed to 5 p.m. Monday, July 1 at the Courthouse in Virginia.

College student helping local families with education needs

Emily Lin, a university student from the University of Mississippi, is helping families this summer with their at-home learning. Her hometown being in Mississippi, she’s participating in a long-standing sales and leadership program that finds her talking to thousands of families and learning the ins and outs of running a business in Cass County. She is living in Springfield with a local family who is hosting her for the summer.

Leah is about three years old. She loves to find a cozy spot in her room and would make a great addition to your couch! She is a very sweet girl who loves attention but most likely won’t beg for it. She has beautiful eyes that are light brown with dark brown spots in them. This beautiful girl, along with all other animals at SCHS will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before adoption. You can meet Leah and all pets at Schuyler County Humane Society, 17000 County Farm Road in Rushville. Visitor hours are Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon, and Sundays from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. You can also make an appointment by calling (217) 322-2220. Drew T. Patrick, 27, Beardstown, was given a written warning for expired registration on June 1.

Kaury J. Garrido-Baez, 39, Beardstown was cited for screeching/squealing of tires and fleeing/eluding police on June 16.

Ramon Penalo-Dejesus, 49, Beardstown was given a written warning for turn signal on June 16.

Felix R. Tavarez-Torrez, 53, Beardstown, was given a written warning for no registration light and obstructed registration on June 16.
