Former city worker sentenced

Former Beardstown City Hall employee Melissa J. Espinoza, 42, pleaded guilty to theft of government property between $500 - $10,000 on July 1. She was arrested in May, 2023, after an investigation by Illinois State Police.

Savion sells 150 MW Illinois Solar Energy Project 

avion, LLC  (Savion) announced today the closed agreement to sell the 150 megawatt (MW) Cass County Solar Project to Ameren Missouri. The project, located in Cass County near Beardstown, Illinois, is expected to utilize up to 330,000 solar modules across approximately 1,700 acres, with approximately 600 acres outside the project fence to be vegetated and returned to farming use.   

Bill to improve early detection of Alzheimer’s advances out of the Ways and Means Committee

Washington, D.C. – The House Ways and Means Committee voted unanimously this week to advance a bipartisan bill to improve early assessment and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. The Concentrating on High Value Alzheimer’s Needs to Get to an End (CHANGE) Act sponsored by Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL), Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA),  Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), and Doris Matsui (D-CA), was included as part of the broader American Medical Innovation and Investment Act.

Slow down, IDOT mowing

The Illinois Department of Transportation is reminding the public that roadside mowing is underway, requiring drivers to slow down, avoid all distractions and proceed with caution when encountering equipment and personnel. The heaviest mowing operations will continue until Aug. 15.
