A sculpture entitled “Steel Garden” will be installed outside the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) in the near future. The sculpture is 22 feet tall and will stand outside the museum’s main entrance at the intersection of Sixth Street and Jefferson Street until March 2025. The sculpture is the work of Richard Hunt, who will be the subject of the new exhibit Freedom in Form: Richard Hunt, scheduled to open Oct. 25. Hunt, a Chicago native, was one of the most important sculptors in American history. He created more than 160 public commissions. His work can be found in more than 100 museums, and former President Barack Obama called him “one of the greatest artists Chicago has ever produced.” When it opens, Freedom in Form will explore not only Hunt’s sculptures but also his creative process and the moments in American history that inspired him.
