Beardstown firefighters redirect their water streams from the vacant burning house to the home at 406 E. 3rd Street in the attempt to save the house next door.  The two homes were separated by a distance of just a few feet, allowing heat and burning embers to ignite a fire in the attic space of the neighboring home. A generous gift — Members of the Beardstown Fall Fun Festival Committee received a $20,000 donation from JBS Beardstown and UFCW Local 431 to help fund the festival’s 50th Anniversary celebration. Fall Festival Treasurer Brenda Fishel receives the check from Chelsee Cornelius (JBS) and Sergio Ruiz (Local 431.) Also on hand for the presentation were Tom Schlueter and Scott Lummis.
