SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AgPR) Aug. 23, 2023 – BRANDT, a leading retailer of professional agronomic services and manufacturer of specialty input products, has broken ground on the Evelyn Brandt Thomas Ag Innovation Center at the BRANDT Research Farm in Pleasant Plains, Illinois. Prairie Skies Public Library presents Reading James Joyce

Reading James Joyce is a course presented by Professor Charles Schweighauser at the Prairie Skies Public Library District. This course will be an in-depth examination of three of Joyce’s major works of fiction: Dubliners, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and Ulysses. Joyce is one of the greatest masters of language; studying his works carefully is a joyful challenge.

Backroads Boutique Crawl set

Home Girls Boutique presents the Backroads Boutique Crawl. The event includes over 25 small businesses in Jacksonville, Winchester and Beardstown. Make plans to join us for a weekend of shopping from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 20 and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21. Julie Rowe, owner of Home Girls Boutique in Jacksonville, is proud to coordinate this highly anticipated shopping “crawl” event which highlights small businesses in the west central area. This is the 7th semiannual Backroads Boutique Crawl.

Cass County Food Pantry dangerously low on food

The Cass County Food Pantry, Virginia, is in desperate need of help. Shelves, tables, and coolers are empty or near empty.
Sitting on the tables and shelves are boxes and totes. Empty boxes and totes. “We are at our lowest. I have never seen the shelves this bare.” said Joanne Anderson, Food Pantry Director.
Anderson, who has led the helm at the food pantry for 25 plus years, said the pantry serves over 200 Cass County families each month. Each family receives two grocery bags filled with various staples, such as soup, canned milk, tuna, noodles toilet paper, soap and so much more. In addition to the shelf stable items, they receive a bag of fresh cold food, a bag of frozen items, and a flat of vegetables and fruit. “We want to make your trip here worth your while. We want to help you feed your family through the entire month,”

Cass County Deputy Jeff Smith is shown with the county’s K9, Echo. Echo participated in the search for two missing people at Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Park. Echo was overcome by the heat and was unable to continue the search. However, Conservation Police and the sheriff’s department continued the search and located the pair.
