Ashland Fire Protection District has new firefighter, more needed
A new volunteer firefighter was introduced at last week’s meeting of the Ashland Fire Protection District board. Jonathan Newell is a local farmer and the latest addition in the district’s search for firefighters. Fire Chief Tyler Latham said the district is still looking for additional volunteers.
Cass residents arrested in Jacksonville
Three of the four Beardstown residents still remain in Morgan County Jail following several drug charges by Jacksonville Police on August 24. Commander Doug Thompson said the only one that has bonded out is Cameron J.

Prairie Skies Public Library presents Reading James Joyce
Reading James Joyce is a course presented by Professor Charles Schweighauser at the Prairie Skies Public Library District. This course will be an in-depth examination of three of Joyce’s major works of fiction: Dubliners, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and Ulysses. Joyce is one of the greatest masters of language; studying his works carefully is a joyful challenge.
