Chandleville Board seats new village president, trustees

The Chandlerville Village Board swore in their new Village President, Dean Eilers, incumbent Village Clerk, Dena Leinberger, and elected incumbent Trustees Adam Pherigo, Troy Campbell and new Trustee Claudette Givens. The board then accepted the appointment of new Trustees Cole Whitehead and Kenny Collins by Village President Dean Eilers.

Memorial Day weekend in Virginia this year includes a special event for those local soldiers, born between 1943-1953 (roughly); the Vietnam Era Veteran. No matter where they were assigned to serve, they did what they were ordered to do.

IDOT is not closing bridge

Illinois Department of Transportation representatives Greg Heckel, Program Development Engineer for District 6, and Kiley Gwaltny, Construction Engineer for District 6 spoke to the Beardstown City Council on Tuesday, May 20th regarding the current repair contract and the proposed new bridge construction. Heckel first stated he wanted to thank the public for their patience and understanding during this time.

Hamilton reelected CrimeStoppers president

Loren Hamilton, Coordinator for Crime Stoppers of Morgan, Scott, and Cass Counties, was recently reelected President of the Illinois State Crime Stoppers Association.

Rise Broadband visits Virginia Council

Ron Macek from Rise Broadband, an internet provider in Illinois, presented to the Virginia City Council at their May 12th, meeting that his company will be reaching out to the council in hopes of constructing a new fiber optic network later this year. When complete, it will give the residents of Virginia another option for high-speed broadband This meet and greet was to schedule a meeting to discuss permitting and access to right-of-way.

County agrees to amend '24-'25 budget

The Cass County Board approved to tentatively amend the 2024-2025 budget for the Highway Fund and the Public Safety Fund at its regular May 12 meeting. Eric Snellgrove voted no, with all other mebers voting in favor.
