Ashland Fire Chief Tyler Latham reported the fire district is pursuing a State Fire Marshall Grant. Latham said at last week’s meeting of the fire district board the grant is $26,000 for small equipment. He said the district might use the money to obtain firefighting monitors. The grant application is due by Dec. 15.
It’s time for Trivia Night Round 2! The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at the historic Grand Opera House, 123 State Street, Beardstown.
The cost is $100 per team and there can be up to ten people per team. There will be nine rounds on various categories.
Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase and you can bring your own adult beverages.

The World Health Organization reports that roughly 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. By the end of that year, there were nearly eight million women alive who had been diagnosed with the disease in the previous half decade.
A breast cancer diagnosis inevitably leads to questions about the disease. The bulk of those questions undoubtedly are asked by the millions of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. But millions more individuals, including friends and family members of recently diagnosed women, may have their own questions. Women can discuss the specifics of their diagnosis with their physicians. In the meantime, the following are some frequently asked questions and answers that can help anyone better understand this potentially deadly disease.

Vaga Delgado, 43, Beardstown, was arrested Sept. 21 for no valid driver license, no valid registration, and operating an uninured vehicle.
