Bartels, Privia  A-C State Scholars

A-C Central students, Lainey Bartels and Jayce Privia have been named as Illinois State Scholars for 2023-2024 school year.

   The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), the state’s college access and financial aid agency, recently announced the 2023-24* Illinois State Scholars. These high-achieving students are selected annually based on their ACT or SAT exams and sixth semester class rank and are recognized for their exceptional academic achievement. The scholars rank in approximately the top ten percent of graduates from Illinois high schools. More than 16,770 students from 690 high schools were selected for this prestigious honor.

Robotics group give demo at school board

The Beardstown Board of Education met Wednesday, October 18 in the high school library opening with a demonstration from the Robotics group showing two different mechanical robots that the group has been developing after school.

Holiday food baskets to be given out December 16 to Beardstown families

The Beardstown Food Basket Committee will give food baskets to deserving families in the Beardstown community on December 16. 

    Guidelines for eligibility are unemployed, low income or senior citizen. If you are eligible, please call the Beardstown First United Methodist Church office at 323-1257 to register Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon.

Water, sewers, sewage disposal rates to increase for city of Beardstown

The Beardstown City Council approved an ordinance amending the water, sewer and sewage disposal rates for the city of Beardstown at the October 17th meeting. 

    Following are the new rates for residential and commercial wastewater customers located within the limits of the city. The basic charge for water usage will be $13.75 for the first 2,000 gallons of water used and then $2.30 additional for each 1,000 gallons used per month (or any fraction thereof). 

   For those located outside city limits, the charge will be $16.50 for the first 2,000 gallons of water used plus $2.30 for each 1,000 gallons used (or any fraction thereof). For non-water customers, the basic wastewater user charge will be $17.88 per month.

French recognized by IASB

Mr. Casey French, President of the Virginia CUSD 64 Board of Education, has been recognized by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) for his participation in a number of professional development and leadership activities during his service as a school board member.

Beardstown Savings, s.b., wins  award

Kraig Lounsberry, president of the Community Bankers Association of Illinois (CBAI), and Bob Swartz, partner at FORVIS, announced that Beardstown Savings, s.b., won for its entry: “Banking the WHOLE Community.” The award was presented at the Recognition Luncheon at CBAI’s 49th Annual Convention & Expo on Saturday, September 23, at the JW Marriott Indianapolis.

Ashland, IL

Ashland finalizes stop sign locations

Taking up business left over from last month, the Ashland Village Board finalizes the locations for new stop signs in the village. The ordinances passed at last week’s meeting of the village board authorized stop signs at the intersections of Alta St. and Topeka St., Progress St. and Alta, Richards St. and Hardin St. and Richards and Niagara St. Adding new stop signs was advocated by police Chief Martin Fanning. A new stop sign at Winooski St. and Forest St. had been authorized by the board last month.
