Jacksonville Hospital seeks volunteers 

Their backgrounds are unique, but Phil Sallee and John Cox share a common interest – the desire to make a difference.

    A retired biologist from the Illinois State Police Crime Lab, Sallee has volunteered at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital (JMH) for six years now. He volunteers as a messenger for Memorial Pain Clinic. “I love the opportunity to do something useful,” he said. “My favorite part is interacting with staff.”

Smithsonian’s “Spark!” exhibition coming to Havana

Havana is hosting the Smithsonian's traveling exhibition "Spark! Places of Innovation." Presented by Illinois Humanities,  the exhibition is open January 13 - February 17, 2024, at the Havana City Center, in partnership with the Havana Area Chamber of Commerce.

Souper Bowl Spring 2024 Fundraiser

The Souper Bowl fundraiser benefitting Catholic Charities St. John’s Breadline will be serving up fresh soups to go. 

These made-from-scratch soups will be available on Friday, February 9th at the Catholic Pastoral Center circle driveway, 1615 W. Washington Street, Springfield, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., or until sold out.

Walmart offers first Wellness Day this Saturday, January 20

A new year presents the opportunity for a new you, and Walmart invites communities to own their health journey by joining us for the first Wellness Day of 2024 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20. Customers can receive free health screenings for things like glucose, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure as well as affordable immunizations like flu, COVID-19, HPV, mumps, measles and more at nearly 4,600 pharmacies nationwide.

Springfield launches mobile Springfield Horseshoe Trail 

Visit Springfield, the official tourism and destination marketing organization for the City of Springfield, is launched the Springfield Horseshoe Sandwich Trail on January 11, 2024!  This new program aims to heighten the awareness of the awesome food scene in Springfield along with the long-standing tradition of the “shoe” in town.

This Friday, January 12, 2024, the 1959 Gymnasium at Beardstown High School will be formally dedicated to the Tigers’ former head coach Bob Hembrough.  The gym was the site of an era of unmatched success for Beardstown High School basketball under Hembrough.  He led the Tiger basketball team from 1973 to 1976,
