Masonic Scholastic Bowl Class 1A Sectional held in Virgina 

The Masonic Scholastic Bowl started out in 1983 as a small project in northern Illinois. Decades later it has grown to be one the largest of its kind. It has over 330 registered schools to compete from all over the state of Illinois. This high-level academic competition has united thousands of students across this state in their pursuit of intellectual excellence.

Jake Stewart, Virginia Jr/Sr principal resigning 

It was with much regret that the Virginia School Board accepted the resignation of Jr/Sr High Principal Jake Stewart at its meeting on Monday, February 26th. 

Principal Stewart has been at Virginia CUSD #64 for two years. He will be going to PORTA  to be principal for third through sixth grade. It was a tough decision but one he made to be closer to family. He will miss the students, staff and community members of Virginia. The board thanked Principal Stewart for all his hard work.

Beardstown Junior/Senior High School

ISBE to visit Beardstown

At the Beardstown School Board meeting held Wednesday, February 21st, Superintendent Brent O’Daniell announced that the Illinois State Superintendent Dr. Tony Sanders along with Dr. Patterson and Director Clyde will tour Gard Elementary along with the Middle/High School and participate in some activities with the students and staff at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 26th. They will also meet with the administrators, board of education members and the migrant staff for a time of questions.

Virginia Students of the Month!

Congratulations to our Virginia Sr and Jr High students of the month.  The students are Lindy Parlier, Cristian Provo, and Donnie Eveland.

Lindy is a Junior who is involved in volleyball, softball, student council, NHS, and FFA.  Her biggest accomplishment in school is making NHS as a sophomore.  Her goals for this year include making high honor roll in all quarters.  After High School she hopes to attend a four-year university and enter a pre-med program.

A-C Central Students of the Month!

A-C Central Jr. High 8th Grade Student of the Month for January is Savannah Guillou. Savannah is the daughter of Jen Guillou and Tom Guillou. She is described by her teachers as a kind friend and a hard-working, capable leader. She is positive, polite and smiles at everyone; jumps to help out and tries to do good whenever she can, whether in the halls, the classroom, or extra-curricular activities. Her talent and knowledge are beyond her years. We are proud to call Savannah an A-C Central Knight!

Alzheimers Support Group will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10 at the old Washington School, 1008 East 5th Street, Beardstown.******Cass Lodge #23 A.F & A.M. will hold a Ham & Bean Supper from 4 - 7 p.m. Saturday,  March 9 at the lodge, 305 Garden Ave., Beardstown. Dine-in and carry-out are available.

Kids can learn about personal finance through library offerings

Young people will have the opportunity to learn about financial topics — like earning, saving, spending, sharing and budgeting — in a way that is both meaningful and fun through a new Beardstown Houston Memorial library offering. Later in 2024, you will be able to visit the library for in-person kids’ programs or take home a tablet loaded with fun games, offered through the Thinking Money for Kids program.
