Pet of the Week

Midnight is a handsome black feline, born in September of 2022. He is very friendly and affectionate. He is a silly boy who loves to lay in the sink and get comfy on a cat tree. This big boy, along with all other animals at Schuyler County Humane Society (SCHS) will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before adoption. You can meet Midnight and all pets at Schuyler County Humane Society, 17000 County Farm Road in Rushville. Visitor hours are Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon, and Sundays from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. You can also make an appointment by calling (217) 322-2220. Dot’s Story Corner donates books to A-C kindergartners and teachers 

Dorothy Newell was a woman who had a passion for reading, not only for reading, but for young children learning to read and reading to her. Her goal in life was to become a Kindergarten teacher but financial obligations did not allow this to happen. She returned to her love of education by volunteering in the kindergarten classes in Ashland Elementary and Our Savior’s Catholic School for approximately 15 years.

Beardstown School board member named to Rural Advising Council

During the committee reports at the Beardstown School board meeting on March 20th, board member Brenda Algandar reported she had been named to the Rural Advising Council.    

The first meeting was held on February 27th and named Dr. Garrison from Vandalia the chairperson. She expressed this council is a way to communicate with the government the needs of rural education. They will be meeting with legislators at their next meeting. This council will meet four times yearly.

Beardstown Police is seeking information on a hit and run accident that occured on March 24. The above pictured vehicle was seen leaving the scene. If you have any information about this accident contact the Beardstown Police Department at 217-323-3131.

Hit-and-run injures woman; business reports break-in

A Beardstown woman was injured and the driver sped away Sunday night at 3rd and State Street, near the Beardstown Lincoln Museum.Ruth Illias, 53, Beardstown, was struck by a white, newer-model Grand Jeep Cherokee at 5:49 p.m. Sunday, March 24. When officers arrived Illias was experiencing pain and was transported to an area hospital by Beardstown Ambulance.

Petersen receives prestigious award from the IRWA

Beardstown Sanitary District Superintendent Wells Petersen received a prestigious award from the Illinois Rural Water Association (IRWA) as the runner-up for Waste Water Specialist for the year 2024. 

He said it was an honor to be recognized by the IRWA.  He said the IRWA monitors everything the district does and how the plant is operating. Petersen received the award at the annual conference held in Effingham.

He has been employed with the Sanitary District since November, 2015.

A-C Students of the Month

A-C Central Senior Student of the Month for February is Landon Eilers. Landon is the son of Brad and Chris Eilers. 

He is described by his teachers as honest, kind and respectful. Landon is a helpful student who is always willing to work and help out with whatever is needed. He is one of the nicest kids in the school building, always going out of his way to say “hi” or hold the door for others. He is a leader in the band and a member of the football team. We are proud to call Landon an A-C Central Knight!
