Roberts 95th birthday

Roy C. Roberts, of Normal, IL, will celebrate his 95th birthday on Feb. 1. He was born and lived most of his life in Beardstown. The second of four children of Clarence and Marietta Elliott Roberts, Roy enjoyed growing up and raising his family in Beardstown.  He married Christine Kuhlmann on Dec. 23, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, prior to serving in WWII.
Roy graduated from BHS in 1939 and attended Culver Stockton College, Bradley University, and the University of Cincinnati. He retired as Beardstown Park Director, but continues to have an avid interest in sports and in the many men and women he coached and cheered for during his years in Beardstown. Roy is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and past president of the 14th Armored Division Association.
Roy and Christine have four children: Ann (Jess) Chelette of Beardstown, Don (Cathy) Roberts of Bloomington, Sue (Richard) Walker of Waukegan, and Chris (Keith) Mason of Gurnee. They have 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with two more expected in May. He continues to gather his extended family from across the country for reunions every two years. Roy’s family will gather in Normal on Feb. 4 to celebrate his birthday.
