Betty Ann Gallion Shelby Cobren, 66, of Philadelphia, IL, died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at her home.
She was born June 8, 1956, in St. Charles, MO, the daughter of Jesse Franklin Gallion and Patricia Ann Gills Gallion. She married Ronald “Butch” Cobren on October 15, 1994, and he survives. She earlier married Fred Shelby and they had one child, Kenny (Jamie) Shelby and Betty had a daughter, Jessica (Jason) Lemar.
She is also survived by six grandkids, Jacob (Abigail) Shelby, Rebecca (Kyle) Ford, Lucas Shelby (companion, Jasmine), Tabitha Hayes, Tyler Scott, and Lauren Lemar; four great grandkids, Millie Shelby, Kyson Ford, Bailey Ford, and Jackson Ford; her sisters, Mary Smith, Kathy (Jay) Decker and Sandy (Ben) Holmes; and brothers, Donnie (Lisa Sanders) Gallion, and Richard “Ricky” (Dawn) Gallion. Betty is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she adored!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Franklin Gallion and Patricia Ann Gills Gallion; a brother, Bob Gills (surviving wife, Lena); and a brother-in-law, James Smith.
Betty was a bookkeeper for several trucking companies including Markm Stribling Trucking and Steve Bartels Trucking. She also had worked for Excel in Beardstown (now JBS), Krohe Refrigeration in Virginia, and Zellers Heating and Cooling. She worked for Littleton’s Storm and Timber for over twenty years before finishing her career and before becoming ill. She was an avid quilter and owned a long-arm quilting machine, producing several beautiful quilts and she made sure every family member got one of her masterpieces. While working for Littleton’s, she helped on the clean up of Hurricane Katrina and worked in New Orleans and Slidell, LA for over a year.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Cass Veterinary Services.
