Bernard “Butch” Coil, 77, of Beardstown died Monday, Nov. 9, 2020, at Heritage Health in Beardstown.
He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Beardstown, the son of Noah Frank and Elizabeth Mayes Coil. He married Norma Jean Stambaugh on June 1, 1962, in Beardstown and she preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 2010.
He is survived by four sons, David Coil of Springfield, Bernard Coil, Jr. and Scott Coil, both of Meredosia, and Robert Coil of Beardstown; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda (Mark) Theivagt of Beardstown, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sydney Moranville; and three brothers, David “Petie” Coil, Vernon Stan Coil and Edwin “Sonny” Warden.
Mr. Coil was a 1961 graduate of Beardstown High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for International Harvester in Carthage and Trinity Steel in Beardstown before becoming an inspector for over 20 years at Bohn Aluminum where he retired. Butch enjoyed hunting and was an active ham radio operator.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Beardstown City Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239.
