The Souper Friday fundraiser benefitting Catholic Charities St. John’s Breadline will be serving up fresh soups to go. These made-from-scratch soups will be available on Friday, November 3rd at the Catholic Pastoral Center circle driveway, 1615 W. Washington Street, Springfield, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., or until sold out.
Chicken noodle soup, steak and vegetable, and chili will be offered. The suggested donation is $5 for 32 oz. of soup. All proceeds will benefit the St. John’s Breadline.
Beardstown Tiger Athletic Club (TAC) will hold a Trivia Night beginning at 7:30 p.m., November 3rd at the El Pueblito Restaurant, 112 East 2nd Street, Beardstown.There will be a fee of $100 per team with a maximum of 10 people per team. This also includes chips, salsa and cheese bar. Soft drinks will be available for purchase. If adult beverages are preferred, they must bring them. Social Hour will start at 7:00 p.m.
Many years ago, our niece, Lynn Wilson, gave us the book, “Front Porch Tales.” She told us that this book reminded her of the many wonderful memories she had while sitting on our front porch and telling stories of our lives. One story in the book was the author telling about his first job, that as a paperboy. Since I had been a paperboy, I could relate to some of the things he wrote. Here is his story:
The AADM (All About Dance & More) Airborne Team attended an USTA Invitational meet at Alwood High School in Woodhull, on Oct. 22nd. This meet was an open invitational meet hosting eight clubs.
There were 32 athletes from the Airborne team that competed in 96 events total on tumbling, trampoline, and double mini. 66% of these athletes placed in the top three in their events, the team claimed 1st place overall in the team finals, and 110 event scores earned a 9.0 or higher in scoring (out of a 10).

I thought of Ronald Reagan’s warning as I watched allegedly smart young college students demonstrate in support of the terrorist organization Hamas as swell as the equally evil Hezbollah.
I cannot imagine American students demonstrating in support of Nazi Germany when Hitler’s military machine rolled through Poland, or Netherlands, or Belgium, or France.

A-C Central students, Lainey Bartels and Jayce Privia have been named as Illinois State Scholars for 2023-2024 school year.
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), the state’s college access and financial aid agency, recently announced the 2023-24* Illinois State Scholars. These high-achieving students are selected annually based on their ACT or SAT exams and sixth semester class rank and are recognized for their exceptional academic achievement. The scholars rank in approximately the top ten percent of graduates from Illinois high schools. More than 16,770 students from 690 high schools were selected for this prestigious honor.
In the ancient Church, Christian worship was centered on two things: the Word and the Lord’s Supper. They very simply modeled what happens on Sunday according to the pattern demonstrated in Acts 2:42, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” (ESV) Out of this vague order of worship arose two major parts of the service: The Service of the Word and the Service of the Sacrament.
