A-C Central student receives full ride

An A-C Central senior received a full 4-year scholarship to Eastern Illinois University totalling $120,000.

Lainey Bartels, Chandlerville, received the Pemberton Presidential Scholarship that will cover her room and board plus full tuition for four years. Bartels plans to major in public relations with a minor in pre-law, then attend law school.

Arenzville crash sends two to hospital

Two people were transported to an area hospital following a crash at 9:35 p.m. Friday, March 29 in Arenzville. 

According to Cass County Sheriff’s report, Willard Transbarger, 80, Arenzville, was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 truck that ran a stop sign at at the Arenzville Road and Main Street. The vehicle went through the intersection southbound into a business parking lot. The truck then ran head-on into a dirt embankment and rolled over onto its top. Transbarger and a passenger, Carol Transbarger, 79, also of Arenzville, were transported.

Building Progress on Main and Washington Street

Progress is being made on the building at Main and Washington Street in Beardstown that is owned by Christy Bley. The corner of the building had shown structural damage which prompted the city to close portions of both streets on the advice of engineers.

Milton Edge and Hazel Geiss Edge were both born in the autumn of 1934, and they married in the autumn of 1954. From this marriage, they produced five children; Yvonne Bernard, husband Ron; Laurel McLagan, husband Gary; Stan Edge, wife Kim; Melinda Taylor, husband Tracy; Rachel Christianson, husband Eric; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The Virginia Jr. High Scholastic Bowl team went 5-0 on Saturday at the Schuyler-Industry Middle School Scholastic Bowl Invitational to be crowned the 2024 Champions. Two Virginia players made the five-person all tournament team for answering the most toss up questions: Jack Brockhouse placed first and Sophia Horton placed third.

Twenty-three Cub Scouts from Virginia, Chandlerville, Philadelphia, and Ashland gathered in Ashland Saturday, March 30, to compete in the Pack 125 Pinewood Derby to determine who would advance to the District race in Jacksonville in April.
