The Beardstown baseball team opened last week with a convincing win over West Prairie before dropping decisions to PORTA-AC Central and New Berlin. With the two wins and one loss the Tigers’ record now sits at 9-11.

At home last Tuesday, BHS pounded out sixteen hits in a 20 to 10, six-inning win over West Prairie.  It was just 1-0 in favor of the Tigers heading to the bottom of the third inning when the hometown offense exploded for twelve runs to run the score to 13-0. The Cyclones struck right back though, getting six of their own in the top of the fourth. A three-run bottom by the Tigers made it 16-6 after four. West Prairie scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth to cut the margin to 16-10, but Beardstown ended it early with four in the bottom of the sixth.

Two more losses last week have the PORTA-AC Central softball team in the midst of a five-game losing streak. The Lady Bluejays fell 5 to 2 at Auburn and 11 to 4 at home to Williamsville and are now 11-9 on the season.

Against the Trojans, PORTA-AC scored a run in the top of the first to take the lead but a three-run second inning by Auburn turned out to be the difference. The Bluejays added a run in the third, but Auburn tacked on insurance runs in the bottom of the third and in the sixth. The Trojans outhit the Jays 14 to 3 on the afternoon. Aubrey Vogel had two hits, including a triple, and scored both Bluejay runs. Gabbi Branson had the other hit while Karlie Hoke had an RBI and Bailey Dahmer walked twice.
