IHSA approves Shot Clock for 2026-27

After years of discussion in Illinois and implementation throughout the country, the shot clock is finally coming to Illinois high school basketball.  Last week the Illinois High School Association Board of Directors approved the use of a shot clock for both boys’ and girls’ basketball based on a recommendation from the IHSA Basketball Advisory Committee.

Redbirds Basketball Camp information

Coach Justin Vinyard has set the dates for this summer’s Redbird Basketball Camp to be held at Virginia High School from July 1 through July 3.  It is for girls in kindergarten through eighth grade.  Kindergarten through second grade will have camp from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., third through fifth grade from 2:15 to 3:45 and grades sixth through eighth from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.  The fee is $30.00 for girls in kindergarten through second grade and $40.00 for third through eighth grade girls.  The fee includes a camp T-shirt and prizes, and all proceeds will benefit the Virginia Junior High Girls Basketball Program.  To register, text or email Coach Vinyard at 217-370-9295 or jvinyard@virginia64.com.  Players need to be registered by June 24 to be guaranteed a T-shirt.  Parents will need to sign a release of liability upon dropping off their child on their first day of camp.

The Beardstown Baseball-Softball Association has announced the selection of the 2024 Baseball All Star Teams for the 9- and 10-year-old and the 11- and 12-year-old levels.  Little League District 17 has also released the schedules for tournament play.

Fistro, Chocolate lab mix, dog.

Fistro is a one year old lab mix. He is gentle and calm, but also likes to play in the yard. He is very smart, good on the leash, and he is learning commands. This handsome boy, along with all other animals at SCHS will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before adoption. You can meet Fistro and all pets at Schuyler County Humane Society, 17000 County Farm Road in Rushville. Visitor hours are Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon, and Sundays from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. You can also make an appointment by calling (217) 322-2220. All Star Softball Tourney dates announced

The dates and locations for the District 17 Little League 9/10-year-old and 11/12-year-old All-Star softball tournaments have been announced. The 9/10-year-olds will play a five-team double elimination tournament while the 11/12-year-old tourney will be a four-team double elimination affair.

The honor roll lists for Graceland University’s 2024 spring term have been announced, and Lance Bogner of Arenzville, has been named to the dean’s list.

Beardstown Little League Baseball recap

In Little League Baseball action from Monday, June 3, from across the river it was Nichols/Rushville defeating the JAM Ink Tigers 10 to 4. For the Tigers Ayden Sullivan pitched 3.2 innings giving up one run on three walks with ten strikeouts.  Alain Mwimbi went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and Quinn Richards collected a hit at the plate.
