Rosalie Elizabeth Vanderpool

Rosalie Elizabeth Vanderpool, 88, formerly of Arenzville, died  Friday, May 13, 2022, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.

She was born January 12, 1934, in rural Cass County near Meredosia, the daughter of Louis H. and Bernice Russwinkel Fuelling. She married Ellis E. Vanderpool on June 22, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Meredosia and he preceded her in death on June 14, 2017.

Rosalie is survived by six children, Ronald Vanderpool (wife, Cathi) of Crown Point, IN, Rosalie Kay “Rose” Jones (husband, John) of rural Winchester, Pamela Nickel (husband, Dale) of rural Concord, Richard Vanderpool of Petersburg, Roger Vanderpool of Arenzville and Polly Gibson of Navarre, FL; nine grandchildren, Heather Helmuth (husband, Mike), Holly Gutierrez (husband, Anthony), Tiffany Jones, Jeremy Jones, Joshua Jones, Jamie Nickel, Nicki Vanderpool, Chelsea Vanderpool, and Whitney Vanderpool; five great grandchildren, Hailey Helmuth, Grace Gutierrez, Gretchen Gutierrez, Dakota Dawdy, and Victoria Drush (husband, Jonah); one step-great granddaughter, Kenzie Bergman; three brothers and two sisters, Harlan Fuelling of Meredosia, Josephine Patterson of Springfield, Byron Fuelling (wife, Shirley) of Beaverville, Louella Crim of Franklin, and Harvey Fuelling (wife, Mary) of St. Charles, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert Fuelling and Donald Fuelling; two sisters, Janell Hammond and Ruth Ann Smith; son-in-law, Will Gibson; two grandsons, Shaun Nickel and Chris Vanderpool (surviving wife, Kristi); two nephews, David Patterson and Gary Patterson; and two nieces, Toni Hammond and Kimberly (Spaenhower) Bryson.

Mrs. Vanderpool was a 1952 graduate of Meredosia High School. She and her husband owned and operated Vanderpool Orchard and Apiary in Arenzville, including selling fruit and honey at farmers markets in both Jacksonville and Springfield. Rosalie was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Meredosia and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arenzville where she taught Sunday school for twenty-five years. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #604 in Arenzville and was past President of American Legion Auxiliary Illinois District 20.

As the oldest of ten children in her parents’ family, Rosalie helped raise many of her younger brothers and sisters. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and her family was one of her greatest joys. She enjoyed traveling and she and her husband loved spending thirty-four winters in Yuma, AZ. She also loved socializing with friends, playing cards, and watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Vanderpool family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Health in Jacksonville for their loving care and devotion to Rosalie.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and School or American Legion Auxiliary Post #604.
