Richard Dean Shores, 68, of Beardstown died Sunday, March 21, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  
    He was born April 29, 1952, in Beardstown, the son of Merle Eugene and Ruth Price Shores.
    He is survived by six siblings, Linda Wubker of Virginia, twin brother Randy Shores of Rushville, Billy Shores of Miami, Linda Savage of Beardstown, Don (wife Karen) Menge of Arizona, and Tari Logsdon of Beardstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Velma Shores, and a brother-in-law, John Wubker.
    Richard graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1970. In his youth he attended First United Methodist Church and was a 40+ year member of Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007. He obtained an associate’s degree from Carl Sandburg College in 1974, his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in 1977, and his master’s degree in Science and Education from Western Illinois University in 1986. Rick taught grade school for over 30 years, beginning in Arenzville and continuing with Triopia Grade School. He was grateful to Triopia School for accommodating him during his health battles.
    Rick’s dedication to youth allowed him to coach for Triopia School and Beardstown Little League. He was an avid race car enthusiast and Chicago Cubs fan. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling, wintering in Florida, and golfing.
    Private family services will be held, and friends are encouraged to watch Rick’s services streaming live at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, on the memorial home’s website at www.colwellmemorialhome.com.
