Two BHS wrestlers advance to state Class 1A finals at U of I

Danny Guzman (22-8) placed second in the  the Class 1A Sectional held at Stanford Olympia last weekend. By placing second Guzman will advance to the state Class 1A finals to be held on the campus of the U of I.
Martin Orduno (35-9) placed fourth in the 138-pound weight class. Orduno lost to the eventual winner of the 138-pound division. He also advances to the state finals.
They will wrestle Friday in the preliminaries.

 
BHS sends five wrestlers to Sectional Meet

The Beardstown High School wrestling team finished fifth in the nine-team Regional meet that was hosted by PORTA High School. The event was held at A-C Central High School this past Saturday.
PORTA won their 14th straight regional crown with a total of 204 ½ points, followed by Macomb with 153 ½, QND 132, West Hancock 117, Beardstown 104 ½, Pittsfield 78 ½, Camp Point Central 68, Illini West 44, and Havana with 10.

 
Beardstown Youth Basketball Results

The Beardstown Youth Basketball League wrapped up its 2013-2014 season on February 5 with make-up action. In the battle for the Rising Stars Division title opener, it was the Yellow Zombies over the Green Goblins 14-4. Lew Barker knocked in all four points for the Goblins in the losing effort. Good team ball was the key to the win as all four Zombies scored with Connor Ellis, Evan Bell and Brayden Wooley getting four points each and Wade Swan two points. The Zombies ended  with a 7-2 record to win the  Division Championship.

 
BHS Tigers win streak ends with loss in overtime to Farmington

BHS played Farmington last Friday night here at the Tiger Den in a Prairieland Conference clash. The hometowners nine-game winning streak came to an end with a 55-52 overtime loss to the Farmers. BHS knocked off Brown County in a rare Saturday afternoon contest 63-57, the win coming on the road.
The Triopia Trojans took on Springfield Calvary and came out on the short end of a 75-57 match-up last Friday night in a road tilt with the Saints.

 
Big Blue demolishes ISD 58-6 in complete rout

The Trojans righted the sinking ship with a 58-6 thrashing of the ISD Tigers last Saturday at Don Kemp Field. The vaunted Trojan Wing-T attack rushed for 335 yards against the hapless Tigers.
“We kind of needed one like this, to get our confidence back,” said head coach Rich Thompson of the Trojans. “I thought our line played very good, and opened a lot of big holes for our backs. The backs also ran hard and we were able to play a lot of people and gain some needed depth and experience,” concluded  Thompson.

 
Tigers claim 24-8 homecoming win over archrival Rockets

The Beardstown Tigers (4-1) secured a 24-8 homecoming victory over their archrivals Rush- ville/Industry in a game that was not near as close as the final score indicated.
D’ante McWilliams carried the mail for the hometowners rushing for 133 yards on only nine carries and one touchdown. The electrifying sophomore also had 34 yards receiving. Alex Myles in a limited role, picked up 73 yards on eight tries and one TD. Myles also had a TD called back.
