Local police departments host drug disposal sites

If you have any unused or expired drugs in your medicine cabinet, you can dispose of them on Saturday, April 26, which is designated as National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
The Beardstown and Rushville police departments, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), are sponsoring sites for drug disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NHS hosts sucessful fundraiser

When the Beardstown School Board made budget cuts due to decreased state funding -- cutting clubs, organizations and middle school sports -- it didn’t take long for members of the Beardstown High National Honor Society to go into action.
Shelby Carey, president of the NHS, said she and fellow members decided they wanted to do something.

Raise a Reader’ fundraising drive a success

The Raise a Reader project of Alpha Phi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma International, has culminated in the distribution of over 3,000 books to four area health departments. Kathleen English, chairman of the Literacy Committee, announced that the 2013 fundraising drive ended successfully with enough funds raised to furnish books and educational materials to health departments in Cass, Morgan and Scott counties. Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor society of educators from the three area counties, began the fundraising efforts last summer and concluded in December. Books were ordered and recently distributed.
