BNSF trains won’t stop here anymore PDF Print E-mail

A way of life stretching back more than 14 decades will end on Tuesday, Nov. 5, when the BNSF Railway eliminates Beardstown as a crew change point.
With this decision, the BNSF Railway estimates about 110 jobs will be lost in Beardstown. Those employees will be able to work out of Galesburg or other locations on the 32,500-mile rail system. At this time, the BNSF reports that 47 Beardstown employees have won bids to work out of Galesburg on trains running between Galesburg and Centralia and Galesburg and the St, Louis area.

Higher taxes were discussed at last week’s meeting of the Beardstown school board. The district is looking at further reductions in state aid at the same time as it faces looming needs to upgrade the HVAC system in Gard School.

This is the eighth year that Mike Logsdon, his friends and family have put a haunted house in the driveway at 1208 Jefferson in Beardstown.
This year he is suggesting that the community get together and have some fun and help a couple of good causes. He is asking that you donate a dollar for the water park fund or a non-perishable food item for the Cass County Food Pantry in exchange for a trip through the 12 to 13 haunted rooms.
