The fundraising campaign for a new pool has thus far raised over $70,000, according to Steve Megginson, park district director.
Megginson said the community has been very supportive of the pool project. He added that Cargill will provide matching funds up to $115,000.
The park district is still waiting to hear about an application that was submitted earlier in the year to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for a Parks and Recreation Construction (PARC) grant. No information has been released yet, Megginson said. The grant, awarded for qualifying projects up to $2.5 million, could provide funding up to 90 percent. If awarded the grant, the local share would be $250,000.
The cost of the pool is estimated by the architects at $2.9 million, Megginson said. Once funds are attained, it would be approximately a year and a half before the pool is constructed and ready to open.
Donations are being accepted at the park district office and by the three local banks.
