Beardstown’s city attorney vacancy may be filled by the end of the week.
Mayor Steve Patterson said that three persons have been interviewed for the position. Although the mayor will make the final decision, he is seeking input from the city council and said a special meeting would probably be held mid-week. He hopes to make a decision by Friday.
Luke Thomas submitted his resignation as city attorney in early March, citing inadequate funding for the amount of hours worked. He has been assisting the city during the transition until the position is filled, Mayor Patterson said.
The mayor, during a meeting on March 18, said the administration was looking into how much to budget for the position but said Monday that no decision regarding the funding had yet been made.
