BHS sends five wrestlers to Sectional Meet PDF Print E-mail

The Beardstown High School wrestling team finished fifth in the nine-team Regional meet that was hosted by PORTA High School. The event was held at A-C Central High School this past Saturday.
PORTA won their 14th straight regional crown with a total of 204 ½ points, followed by Macomb with 153 ½, QND 132, West Hancock 117, Beardstown 104 ½, Pittsfield 78 ½, Camp Point Central 68, Illini West 44, and Havana with 10.
PORTA won three individual matches and qualified 11 wrestlers for the sectional competition. The PORTA team will compete in the Gibson City Dual Team Sectional Feb. 25.
The five BHS wrestlers will compete at the Stanford Olympia Class 2A Sectional this Friday and Saturday.
Beardstown advances five wrestling Tigers to the sectionals with Jake Lux (24-3) and Martin Orduno (33-7) winning their regional matches. Lux won in the 120-pound division by pinning West Hancock’s Jacob Lowman at 5:38; Orduno won his match over Macomb’s Steven Huffman in an 11-4 decision in the 138-pound division.
Luke Savage (27-12) advanced to the sectionals with a second place finish in the 126-pound weight match on a pin at 3:03; Danny Guzman (19-7) advanced when he placed third by defeating Pittsfield’s Libby in a tight 4-3 decision, and Mason Goodrich (6-9) was the fifth BHS wrestler to make it to the sectionals with a third place finish by winning a 10-2 decision in the 195-pound division.
