It was the Green Grizzlies using an 8-2 scoring difference in the third quarter to knock off the Blue Blazers 22-16 in the opening game of last week’s action of the All-Pro Division of the Beardstown Youth Basketball League. Both teams used balance scoring as four of five Grizzlies scored and three of the four Blazers scored. Denzel McWilliams had a game-high 14 points to lead the Grizzlies, while Eddie Keaton tossed in four and Caleb Lyles and Adrian Mercedes added two each. Josh Luna had eight points, including six in the fourth quarter to lead the Blazers. Treyvon McKinney knocked down six points and Johan Avila had two in the losing cause.
In game two, the Gray Spurs used a 10-zip onslaught in the fourth quarter to turn a 10-8 third quarter deficit into an 18-10 win over the Yellow Pacers. Jacob Pate had all ten points in the fourth and game-high 16 points to lead the comeback, with Alexander Sanchez adding two for the winners. The Pacers got six points from Brayden Booth and four points from Brock Krumboltz in the losing effort.
In All-American Division action on Thursday, the nets were nearly burned up as the Blue Cougars and Green Gators combined for fifty-four points in a 34-20 Cougars victory. The Cougars, who exploded for 22 first half points, got 18 points from Alex Zuniga, 10 points from Bronson Bartlett and six points from Cesar Huerta. Zayne Pascal got into double digits with 10 points for the Gators, while Isaac Brockschmidt had eight and Trent Murray added two points.
Game two saw the Gray Sharks turn up the defense in a 16-8 win over the Yellow Coyotes. Ryan Snow knocked in 12 points and Ryan McClenning added four points for the winning Sharks. Derek Lopez had all eight-points including four in the fourth quarter as the Coyotes tried to fight their way back.
In the Rising Stars Division, it was the Green Goblins over the Blue Ninjas 14-8 in the opener. Tripp Sharp had six points in the fourth quarter and game-high eight points to lead the Goblins. Ezequiel Santiago added four and Lew Barker knocked in two for the winners. Isaac Brockschmidt had six points and Chris Tchaklizo had two for the Ninjas.
In the final game, the Yellow Zombies used a big second half to turn a four-point lead into a 22-6 win over the Gray Pirates. Three of four Zombies scored with Brayden Wooley having 14 points and Wade Swan and Evan Bell notched four-points. Brendan Dailey had four-points and Braxton Baer two points for the Pirates.
