Council approves purchase of two new vehicles for police department PDF Print E-mail

The Beardstown City Council approved the purchase of two new Fords for the Police Department at the request of Chief Roy Hurst.
The vote came to six to two with Katie Vitale, Mary Davis, Tom Penwarden, Leslie Harris, Robert Burget, and JD Grafford voting for the purchase and Mitch Webster and Kennia Erickson voting against the measure.
The vehicles with police package will be purchased at Morrow Brothers in Greenfield. The bids had been secured by the Police Chief. It was brought up by the public about purchasing out of town when the local dealer was a big contributor to sales tax revenue, however Chief Hurst said these vehicles were the ones he wanted. Both vehicles will be 2014 models, a utility and a sedan, all wheel drive. It was pointed out that three trucks had been purchased from the local dealer for the public works department.
In other action, the council voted to pay Pat Cagle Welding the remainder of his invoice for work at the water department.
