In last week’s action of the All-Pro Division of the Beardstown Youth Basketball League, it was the Yellow Pacers blitzing the Green Grizzlies, who had to pick up two players on game day due to illness, by an 18 to 2 score. The Pacers got 10 points from Brock Krumboltz, four points from Quinton Pearn and two points each from Brayden Booth and Ethan Ross as four of five players scored. Eddie Keaton knocked in a two-pointer late in the fourth quarter for the only Grizzlies’ points to avoid the shut out.
In the second game, the Gray Spurs barely held off a second half comeback attempt to knock off the Blue Blazers in a high scoring shoot out 26 to 24. Jacob Pate had a game-high 20 points, Zach Hollis had four and Clayton Hill had two points for the victorious Spurs. The Blazers, who had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but could not get a shot to fall, were led by Josh Luna with 14 points and Treyvon McKinney with 10 points.
Excitement was in the air on Wednesday night in the All-American Division as both games came down to the wire. The crowd was on their feet and got their money’s worth as the opening game went to sudden death double overtime with the Green Gators slipping by the Yellow Coyotes 16 to 15. Isaac Brockschmidt made a free throw in overtime and the winning free throw in double OT and had eight points total for the
Gators. McKenna Maltby and Zayne Pascal both had four points including buckets in the fourth quarter in the comeback win. Derek Lopez made his overtime free throw to extend the game to double OT and had 11 points for the Coyotes. Heber Olivas added four points in the tough loss.
As exciting as game one was, it could not quite match game two as the Beardstown Youth Basketball league had its first ever buzzer beating game winning basket. Cesar Huerta scooped up a loose ball at half court with three seconds left and bolted down the left side to lay it in as time expired to give the Blue Cougars a 26 to 24 win over the Gray Sharks. Huerta and Alex Zuniga had 10 points each and Bronson Bartlett had six points for the Cougars. Ryan Snow had 16 points, Declan Larakers had six and Ryan McClenning added two for the Sharks in the heartbreaking loss.
Rising Stars Division
You can see the time in the gym paying off as the Rising Stars Division play on Friday saw another high-scoring affair go to an overtime shootout. In the opener, Ezequiel Santiago and Tripp Sharp each made their OT free throw and had nine points to lead the Green Goblins over the Yellow Zombies 22 to 21. Ryan McClenning added four points for the Goblins.
