‘Simply Vintage’ opens in Chandlerville PDF Print E-mail

By Lynne Beard
For the Star-Gazette
A warm, cozy room with the scent of vanilla in the air, colorful wreaths, candles, sconces, gingerbread potpourri, antique furniture and beautiful hand made jewelry. This was my first impression of “Simply Vintage.”
Marinda Behrends opened Simply Vintage for business Saturday, November 9, at 110 N. Main Street in Chandlerville. Marinda “enjoys refurbishing antique furniture, repurposing things and making original items by hand.” She is very creative. Her creations are everywhere: a colorful wreath hanging on the back door, a ladder with evergreen garland hanging from the ceiling, a table she made from an old barn door, and one-of-a kind jewelry, including rings fashioned from silverware, necklaces and bracelets.
I was struck by the braided woven rug, which she special orders in two shapes, various sizes and colors, on display in the middle of the room. An antique cupboard housing 1803 candles in a variety of scents, mason jar sconces with candles glowing, large and small salvaged ceiling tin letters on the walls (no two are alike) can be special ordered and hand made baskets fill the room.
What a wonderful place to buy gifts for the holiday season. Marinda will be hosting a Christmas open house in December.
Simply Vintage is open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. View pictures of items at www.facebook.com/simplyvintagegifts. Call Marinda at (217) 899-6756 for special orders.
