The Beardstown Tiger soccer team won one and lost one this past week, losing to a very good Monmouth-Roseville squad 3-0, but bounced back last Thursday to top Riverton in a close 2-1 duel here at home.

BHS vs. Monmouth
BHS played a very competitive soccer match against one of the better teams in the area, Monmouth-Roseville High School.
Monmouth got off to a quick jump start as they caught the hometowners sleeping and scored two quick goals early in the first half. M-R added their final goal just before the half ended to take a 3-0 lead.
BHS played M-R to a standstill in the second half but the damage had been done. “It was a hard-fought battle against a strong team. The boys played hard but we didn’t play our best soccer and we look forward to meeting them again down the road and show them how we can truly play,” concluded coach Adam Hamilton.

BHS vs. Riverton
In the contest with Riverton, the locals played a very tight match and came away the victors by a 2-1 margin. BHS got on the scoreboard early and then held off the Rockets scoring another goal just before the halftime to lead 2-0 in the hard-played contest.
Riverton scored their only goal in the second half with the hometowners holding them off to pick up the 2-1 victory. With the win BHS improved to 6-3 overall, and with just two weeks left in the regular season, are playing very competitive soccer. They have already eclipsed their five-win season of last year
“The boys are working very hard and their hard work is paying off with Tiger victories, especially when we are playing some of the top teams in the area,” stated Hamilton.
BHS has six games left on their schedule: Macomb (H), Springfield High (H), Jerseyville High (H), Lanphier (A). All four of these schools are AA schools. They also tackle Mt. Pulaski (A) and end the season against the perennial powerhouse Lutheran High (A) on October 10.
