For the first time in a long time the Triopia Trojans suffered two consecutive losses in the WIVC. Last Friday they traveled to Carrollton to take on the No. 6th Class 1A state ranked Hawks and came away on the short end of a 34-8 verdict.
The Trojan Wing-T ground attack rushed for 198 yards.  However, they were minus 7 yards in passing, which gave them 191 yards of total offense.     The host Hawks rolled up 177 yards on the ground, and 152 through the air for 329 yards of  total offense.
The Big Blue stayed with the highly-regarded  hosts for the first half, trailing only 14-8 at the midway break.
Triopia, trailing 6-0, was able to take an 8-6 lead when Matt Parker broke loose for a 48-yard gallop and ran in the two-point conversion at 5:14 of the first period.
The lead held up until the 1:07 mark of the second quarter when Jacob Smith connected with Cole Brannan for his second TD toss of the game. The first scoring pass came on a 29-yard strike to Luke Palan at 6:09 of the first frame.
The Hawks dominated the second half of play scoring on a 22-yard pass from Smith to Palan at the 2:52 mark of the third period, and put the game away when Smith scored on a one yard QB sneak at 8:35 of the fourth quarter and put the icing on the cake with a 30-yard sprint with 1:32 left in the game.
Smith was a one man wrecking crew for the Hawks completing 7-of-12 for 152 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 69-yards on 11 tries and two TD’s. Matt Parker led the Trojans attack with 117 yards on 17 carries and scored the lone Trojans touchdown.
“We played much better this week than in our opener. I was proud of the boys, they battled hard, especially in the first half. Carrollton has so many playmakers they are a tough team to prepare for and they have some outstanding athletes,” concluded Coach Thompson.
